Mr. Meyer specializes in litigation and arbitration of real estate related cases. His numerous trials in state and federal courts have included cases about acquisition and development of real estate, title disputes, title insurance, construction, mechanic’s liens, mortgage lending, and commercial disputes generally.
A native Texan, Mr. Meyer received bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1972, he came to Houston to serve as an Assistant District Attorney for Harris County. From 1976 to this date, he has conducted a civil litigation practice in Houston.
In 1979 Mr. Meyer was a founding member of the firm of Meyer & Cribbs, P.C., which specialized in real estate, construction, and mortgage lending. He served as managing shareholder of that firm. From 1993 until 2010, he practiced in an “Of Counsel” capacity with the firm of McCormick & Hancock, P.C., and its predecessor firms. In 2011 he joined the firm of Jones Gill in an “Of Counsel” capacity.
Mr. Meyer’s real estate related clients have included owners, lenders, developers, construction companies, subcontractors, title insurance companies, and surety companies. He has also represented business and individual clients in general commercial litigation, including securities matters.
Mr. Meyer is a regular participant in bar association activities, both at the local and state level, in the areas of real estate, construction, and litigation law, and he is an active member of the Texas Land Title Association.
Mr. Meyer has written numerous articles and seminar papers in the areas of real estate, construction, title insurance, and mortgage lending law. He has presented lectures before the Real Estate and Construction Law Sections of the Houston Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas, as well as the Texas Land Title Association and various other business and professional groups.
In addition to his experience in litigation, Mr. Meyer serves as arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association (construction and commercial law panels), and for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. He has been an approved arbitrator for the AAA since 1985, as well as having extensive experience as an advocate in arbitration matters before the AAA, NASD, FINRA, and other forums.
Mr. Meyer served as a local and state officer of the Houston and Texas Young Lawyers Association, and he has been an active participant in committees of the Houston Bar Association and State Bar of Texas.
Mr. Meyer has handled complex commercial litigation for more than thirty years, and he is committed to obtaining favorable and cost-effective results for his clients.
